STUDENT OUTPOST VISITORS GUIDE
All members of your team should plan to arrive on time, or—better yet—a few minutes early. If you are more than ten minutes late, we may need to cancel your appointment and have you reschedule for another time.
At least two team members must be present for photo appointments—one person will operate the camera and another person will be the hand model. Any other team members are encouraged to attend as well, in case your group needs extra help.
WANT TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?
We’re happy that you’ve decided to book an appointment with us! Here’s what you need to know before scheduling an appointment.
We do not accept walk-in appointments.
Your team might need more than one photo appointment to complete all the photos for your project. To make it easier, you can schedule multiple appointments at one time.
NEED TO CANCEL AN APPOINTMENT?
We understand emergencies happen, so please email techwriting[at]ifixit[dot]com if you must cancel your appointment on short notice. Please do not call our Customer Support line.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR VISIT
Come prepared with your device and toolkit.
Make sure you know how your device comes apart. This should not be the first time you have attempted to open your device. You'll need the whole appointment to shoot photos; you don't want to lose time struggling to open and learn about your device.
If you have a question about a certain step in your guide and would like some help figuring it out, disassemble the device as much as you can before coming to your appointment.
Bring a laptop with an SD card slot or USB port to transfer your images. If you fail to bring a laptop, you will not be able to retrieve your images from the camera’s SD card.
CHECKING OUT EQUIPMENT
We strongly encourage you to photograph your device at the Student Outpost, but we understand that this might not be possible due to time constraints. If you cannot schedule a photo appointment onsite, you can check out a lighting kit and camera to use off-site.
If you've arranged to check out a device or equipment, you'll need to make an appointment to pick it up at the Student Outpost. Bear in mind that some devices are large (like vacuums), so make sure to bring a buddy to help you carry your equipment away.
Each group member is responsible for the materials checked out.
RETURNING EQUIPMENT
All equipment must be returned to the Student Outpost the week after you’ve completed your project. If you do not return your materials on time, we will contact the group member who provided their name and number during device check-out.
