A complete overview of the basics of SEO from the biggest name in search. Written for webmasters and online content managers, this guide gives tips on best practices for optimizing content… from the admittedly-biased perspective of Google. However, the information within this starter guide is still a great resource for those looking to understand how search engines in general—and Google in particular—interact with and evaluate content on the web.

Search Engine Land - Essential Guide To SEO

Although this guide is written from the perspective of a training manual for prospective SEO consultants, it does a great job of detailing the various off-page factors that affect how search engines rank pages. This resource may not be as relevant as the others for your work on the SEO Writing Project, but it’s a great addition to your reading if you’d like to learn more about SEO on your own.

Google - Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines

These are the guidelines that Google supplies to their search quality evaluators—who are living, breathing humans and not bots or algorithms. This document provides insight into the qualities that Google values—including qualities they may eventually train their algorithm to evaluate independent of human intervention.

Google Webmasters - Core Updates August 2019
